Canvas prints
Will a photo from my phone be good enough?
Most phone photos print well. Upload yours and look at it in the designer at the size you want before you decide.
What size canvas should I choose?
Measure the space first. Above a sofa or a bed, a canvas about two thirds of its width usually looks right, which for most sofas means 20" x 30" or 24" x 36". 12" x 16" and 16" x 20" suit hallways, shelves and smaller walls. Mark the size on the wall with masking tape before you order and you will see it straight away.
Portrait or landscape?
Either way round, at the same price. Each size is a shape, so a 12 x 16 is the same canvas whether it hangs tall or wide.
Wrapped edge or white edge?
Your choice, at the same price. A wrapped edge carries your photo round the sides of the frame. A white edge leaves the sides white and keeps the whole photo on the front.
What is the difference between the finishes?
Standard canvas is bright, sharp and ready to hang. Premium canvas adds a solid board behind the canvas for extra protection. Pro canvas has select pine stretcher bars and a taped back. Framed canvas sits in a floating frame in black, oak or white. Premium canvas, pro canvas and framed canvas are printed with archival inks.
Is it ready to hang?
Yes. Every canvas is stretched over a wooden frame and arrives ready to go on the wall. Pro canvas comes with a brass hanging plate.
How long do canvas prints last?
Premium, pro and framed canvas are printed with Canon Lucia inks, fade resistant for 75 years, and you can add fade resistant inks to a standard canvas when you design it. Whichever you choose, keep it out of strong direct sunlight and damp rooms.
How do I look after it?
Dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it out of damp rooms and strong direct sunlight.
Photo gifts
What is the difference between acrylic and wooden blocks?
Acrylic blocks have your photo printed edge to edge on the back of 20mm of clear, diamond polished acrylic, for a glass-like finish. Wooden blocks have your photo bonded to a 1" deep block. Both stand on their own.
Do they need a stand?
No. Every photo block stands on its own, landscape or portrait.
Does the photo go right to the edge of an acrylic block?
Yes. It is printed edge to edge on the back of the block, so there is no clear border.
What sizes do you make?
From 3" x 3" up to 8" x 6". Every size and price is in the table above.
How do Floto tiles hang?
Each tile sticks to the wall with a removable adhesive nano strip, so there is no drilling and no nails.
How far do they stand from the wall?
Around 1". The floating back holds the photo clear of the wall, so it seems to hover.
What sizes are they?
A single Floto tile is 8" x 8". The set of 5 has three 8" x 8" tiles and two 12" x 12" tiles.
Can I add more tiles later?
Yes. Single tiles are 8" x 8", so you can add to your wall whenever you like.
DTF transfers
What are DTF transfers?
DTF (direct to film) transfers are full colour designs printed on to film with a white layer and adhesive behind them. You heat press them on to almost any fabric, light or dark, cotton or polyester. There is no weeding and no pre-treatment, and the finish is bright, soft and detailed.
How much does DTF printing cost?
You pay for the length of film you use, to the centimetre, on a 56 cm wide sheet. It starts at £11.99 a metre inc VAT and falls to £7.19 a metre as your basket grows. A 1.5 m sheet costs £17.99. The rate is set by the total length of all the gang sheets in your basket, DTF and UV DTF together.
How do DTF gang sheets work?
A gang sheet is one long transfer with lots of designs on it. Open the gang sheet creator, upload your artwork, then size and arrange as many designs as you like on the 56 cm width. Auto-arrange packs them tightly to save film. You pay for the length the sheet uses, then cut the designs apart with scissors.
Can I get DTF transfers next day?
Yes. Order by 1:30pm on a working day and we dispatch the same day. Choose Express at checkout for next working day delivery, or Standard (3 to 4 working days), which is free on DTF orders over £60.
Do DTF transfers come off in the wash?
Not when they are pressed properly. Press at 150°C for 10 seconds with moderate pressure. Wait 24 hours before the first wash, wash inside out and avoid ironing directly on the print.
Is DTF better than vinyl or sublimation?
For most full colour work, yes. Unlike vinyl there is no cutting or weeding and no limit on colours or detail. Unlike sublimation, DTF works on cotton and dark garments, not just white polyester.
What artwork do I need?
PNG, PDF or TIF with a transparent background, at 150 dpi or higher at the size it will print. CMYK artwork gives the most accurate colour. JPEGs cannot hold transparency, so avoid them where you can.
What is UV DTF, and do I need a heat press?
UV DTF transfers are tough, full colour stickers for hard surfaces: glass, metal, plastic, wood, candles and packaging. No heat press is needed. Peel off the backing, press the design on with your thumb and peel away the clear film. Choose gloss for a raised, shiny finish or matt for a smooth, glare-free one.
Are UV DTF stickers permanent?
They are made to stay put. The design bonds straight away and reaches full strength over the next couple of hours. Once bonded it is scratch and water resistant and will not peel or leave residue in normal use.
Can I upload a finished gang sheet instead?
Yes. If your artwork is already laid out as a 100 cm x 56 cm sheet, use Upload print-ready artwork on the product page and we print it as it is.
Tote bags
Can you print tote bags the same day?
Yes. Order up to 50 Printed Cotton Shoppers by 1:30pm on a working day and we print them that afternoon. Collect them from our workshop in Sheffield the same day, or have them delivered by express courier the next working day. Other bags, and bigger orders, are printed in about 5 working days.
How much does tote bag printing cost?
From £2.39 a bag inc VAT, for 250 or more Natural Cotton Shoppers printed on one side. A single bag is £11.99. Prices drop at 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250 bags, and the designer shows your price as you choose. Coloured bags, the large print size, printing the back and next day printing cost a little more.
Is there a minimum order for printed tote bags?
No. You can order a single bag.
How are your tote bags printed?
With DTF (direct to film): your design is printed in full colour onto film and heat pressed onto the bag. Photos, gradients and fine detail all print, and there are no screens or setup fees, unlike screen printing.
Can you print on both sides of a tote bag?
Yes. Switch on "Print on the back too" in the designer and upload a second design, or use your front design again. The designer shows the extra cost at your quantity.
Do you have recycled tote bags?
Yes. Our Recycled Cotton Shopper is made from 100% recycled cotton, 150gsm, printed in full colour from £2.51 a bag inc VAT.
What file should my design be?
A PNG with a transparent background is best. PDF, JPG, SVG and TIFF files work too. For a sharp print, supply your design at 300dpi at the size it prints; 150dpi is the least we recommend. The designer tells you how sharp your file will print.
Will the white background of my design print?
Yes: DTF prints white, so a white background prints as a white box. For just your design on the bag, upload a PNG with a transparent background. The designer warns you if it spots one.
Can I wash a printed tote bag?
Yes. Wait 24 hours before the first wash, wash the bag inside out, and avoid ironing directly on the print.
